[A/N:] This is actually one of my Art Projects in school. We had to do a presentation about why/how we ended up in the field of nursing and what it means to us. I decided to do this poetry (this actually came with a PowerPoint presentation with colorful pictures and whatnot, but I couldn't upload the thing here so I just copy/pasted it plain.)

I know it's a little "cheesy" to some of you, but this is actually my field right now. Be nice to us nurses :)

Once, a 17-year old girl was asked by her mother

“What do you want to become, my lovely daughter?”

She stopped to think and responded with laughter

“Engineering is where it’s at, ‘coz I love numbers.”

The girl then went to pursue a career

“This is not what I want,” she said with a fear

She tried to figure out, what does come near

To her likes and dislikes, and her purpose to be here.

She found the field of health, to be a great fit

Starting out in prevention, it sure was a great hit

She realized that there was, something she could not meet

“I am looking for a challenge, to constantly think on your feet.”

She met a woman, a scholar that she picked

The scholar denounced, “In my profession, you need a strong work ethic”

It is a career where, you don’t just work with the sick

A profession where it all comes together, this is where everything clicks.

You will become a mother, a friend, a colleague, and a stranger

In this profession you will become, an overall achiever

But no matter which role, you just need to remember

You will touch people’s hearts, one way or another.

I was once a 17-year old girl that didn’t know what to do

But right now I am on the way, just like each and every one of you

We will all laugh, we will cry, and we will start questioning why

But we all know nursing is where it’s at, and we won’t regret it as years pass by.
